To reduce vehicular traffic at the toll plazas, the Government of India (GOI) has mandated all toll plazas, pan India, to make toll payments electronic. With this mandate, all vehicles travelling through toll plazas will have to mandatorily pay toll charges using FASTag.


FASTag is a simple to use, reloadable tag which enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets you pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction. FASTag is linked to a prepaid account from which the applicable toll amount is deducted. The tag employs Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology and is affixed on the vehicle's windscreen after the tag account is active.

FASTag is a perfect solution for a hassle free trip on national highways. FASTag is presently operational at 407 toll plazas across national and state highways. More toll plazas will be brought under the FASTag program in the future.

How to use FASTag?

FASTag is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag that is linked to Prepaid or Savings/Current Account from which toll amount is deducted.

Steps for FASTag use:

  1. Affix the tag on your vehicle
    Remove the adhesive strip and put the tag carefully in the centre of your vehicle’s front windshield (from inside just behind the rear view camera). Once the FASTag has been placed on the windshield, do not take it out as it may destroy the magnetic stripe. Do not use cello tape or other adhesives to the FASTag card
  2. Maintain sufficient balance in your Prepaid Account
    The applicable toll amount will be automatically deducted from your Prepaid Account.
    To recharge FASTag, log in with your details.
  3. Zip through toll plazas without stopping to pay cash

Saves fuel and time:FASTag is read by the tag reader at the plaza and the toll amount is deducted automatically, when the vehicle approaches the toll plaza. The vehicle with FASTag doesn't need to stop at the toll plaza for the cash transaction.

SMS alerts for transactions: Customer will receive SMS alerts on his/her registered mobile numbers for all the transactions done in his/her tag account

FASTag is a device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the Prepaid Account linked to it. It is affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle and enables you to drive through toll plazas, without stopping for cash transactions.

National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme uses FASTag device that employs RFID technology, for making electronic toll payment. The FASTag is mounted on the vehicle’s windscreen. As the vehicle reaches the toll plaza, the unique identification number that is embedded on the tag is read by the RFID reader. Applicable toll amount as per the vehicle category is deducted from the Prepaid Account that is linked to the FASTag.

Please login to FASTag portal with your username, password. Visit Recharge account, select UPI, enter amount to recharge, in the Virtual Payment Address field, enter the payer VPA (from which the recharge amount shall be deducted) and proceed. After clicking on “Make payment” on the website, a voucher shall be generated. Please login to the payment app, where the payer VPA is mapped. Under UPI-Pending UPI transaction you shall find a transaction from etctolltag@icici. Once authorized, the payment status shall be updated shortly and can be viewed from customer portal.
